Richard Melkonian is a London based composer studying at Guildhall School for Music & Drama London with Matthew Kaner. In 2014 he won the Mary Ryan Award for composition and was commissioned to write for  The Esperanta Ensemble. Richard was also a finalist for the AGBU Composition Competition for his piece ‘Andastan’ (Անտասդան) which was performed May 11th Symphony Space, New York. He has also been recently commissioned by Zeroklassical to write a new Sitar Concerto for Sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun, due to be performed at the end of 2015.

Richard studied film-making (BTEC) at the National Film School Beaconsfield, and in 2014 and 2015 finished original scores for Emma Swinton’s short film Isabella and Filip L. Firlej’s feature film If It Be Love. He is currently writing an original score for Sevan K. Greene’s Nahda for voices and traditional Arabic ensemble as part of the Shubbak festival of contemporary Arabic literature and arts, performed at the Bush Theatre in July 2015. Richard’s studies at the Guildhall are made possible by the Guildhall School Trust.  Alongside composition, Richard is also studying Jazz Piano with Barry Green, which he feels allows him the room to explore different avenues of musical expression.  Richard also  arranges music for commercial artists at Pink Bird Studios with producer Rick David.

The soundtrack album for If It Be Love, produced by Richard V. Melkonian and Filip L. Firlej, will be released soon after the film's completion in autumn.
